Privacy: what we keep about you

Bot School is a site for programming LEGO SPIKE robots. Anyone can open it and start coding. Here is everything it keeps, and everything it doesn't.

Playing without signing in

If you just open the site and code, nothing about you is saved on our server. Your programs and stars stay in this browser on this computer. No account, no analytics, no tracking.

Kids who sign in (school accounts)

You can sign in with Google only with a school account, and only if your school has joined Bot School. Then we keep:

If your school isn't on Bot School yet, or you use a personal account, signing in keeps nothing: you just carry on playing in this browser.

Kids with picture logins

Some classes log in with a class code and two secret pictures. For them we keep the name as the teacher typed it (first name and last initial), a picture (an animal or emoji), the two secret pictures, and the same programs, runs and stars as above.

Teachers and volunteers

Adults who sign in to run a class: we keep your name and email address (from Google), which school you belong to and your role there. The email is used for invitations and to recognise you when you sign in. When someone creates a new school, the site's operator is told the school's name and domain and the teacher's name.

What we never keep

Internet addresses are used for a few minutes only, to stop people guessing logins, and are never saved.

Who can see it

You, and the teachers of your class. School admins can see every class of their school. Other kids can't see your work, except when your teacher shows something to the class. Nobody at another school can see anything about yours.

How long we keep it

Until the end of the school year. When a teacher closes a class, everything about it (names, programs, stars) is deleted 30 days later, and the last backup copies are gone two weeks after that. A teacher can also delete one student's work at any time, or give a parent a copy of it.

Questions?

Ask your teacher. Parents: your child's teacher can show, export or delete your child's data.
